Cancelling and refunds, plainly.
This policy explains how cancellations, plan changes and refunds work for subscriptions to Comet. It should be read alongside our Terms of Service.
Last updated: 24 September 2026Comet is operated by Comet Website Builder Ltd, a company registered in Scotland under company number SC903672.
1. Our plans
Comet currently offers the following plans:
- Spark — a free plan with limited features and one published website;
- Signal — a paid plan costing £5 per month (or £48 billed annually); and
- Galaxy — a paid plan costing £12 per month (or £120 billed annually).
Paid plans are billed monthly unless a different billing period, such as the annual option above, is clearly shown and accepted before purchase. The features and usage limits included in each plan are displayed on our pricing page and during checkout. Applicable taxes will be displayed at checkout where required.
2. Automatic renewal
Signal and Galaxy subscriptions renew automatically each billing period until cancelled. By purchasing a paid subscription, you authorise our payment provider, Stripe, to charge your selected payment method at the beginning of each billing period.
We will clearly display the following information before you subscribe:
- the selected plan;
- the amount payable;
- the billing frequency;
- whether any taxes apply;
- that the subscription renews automatically; and
- how to cancel.
3. Cancelling a paid subscription
You may cancel a Signal or Galaxy subscription at any time through the billing or subscription settings in your Comet account.
Cancellation prevents the subscription from renewing at the end of the current paid billing period. Unless otherwise stated or required by law, your paid features will remain available until that period ends. You will not be charged for another billing period after a cancellation has been completed successfully.
We will send you confirmation of your cancellation by email. If you experience difficulty cancelling through your account, contact us at contact@cometwebsitebuilder.com before your next renewal date.
4. What happens after cancellation
At the end of your paid billing period, your website will normally move to the Spark plan rather than being deleted immediately. When a website moves to the Spark plan:
- its custom domain may be disconnected;
- Comet branding may be displayed;
- paid-only features will no longer be available;
- Spark-plan page, storage and usage limits will apply; and
- the website may return to a Comet subdomain.
If your website exceeds the limits of the Spark plan, we will explain what action is required. You may need to remove content, select another paid plan or download your content. We will provide reasonable notice before deleting content solely because it exceeds the limits of a downgraded plan, unless immediate action is required for security, legal or Acceptable Use Policy reasons.
Cancelling a subscription does not automatically delete your Comet account.
5. Fourteen-day first-purchase refund
If you are purchasing a Comet paid subscription for the first time, you may request a refund within 14 days of the original purchase. This first-purchase refund applies once per customer and is not intended to support repeated subscriptions, cancellations or misuse of paid features.
To request the refund, contact contact@cometwebsitebuilder.com and provide the email address associated with your account. Nothing in this policy limits any cancellation or refund rights provided by applicable consumer law.
6. Refunds after the initial 14 days
After the initial 14-day period, subscription payments are generally non-refundable once the billing period has begun. We may nevertheless provide a full or partial refund where:
- you were charged more than once for the same subscription;
- an incorrect amount was charged;
- a payment was taken after a properly completed cancellation;
- Comet experienced a serious or prolonged failure that materially prevented use of the paid service;
- we determine that a refund is appropriate as a gesture of goodwill; or
- a refund is required by applicable law.
Refund requests are considered based on the circumstances and do not guarantee that a refund will be issued unless you have a legal right to one. A change of mind after the initial refund period will not normally qualify for a refund for the remaining days of a billing period.
7. Service problems
If a technical problem prevents you from using Comet, please report it as soon as reasonably possible. We will first try to:
- investigate the problem;
- restore the affected service;
- provide a reasonable workaround; or
- correct an account or billing error.
Depending on the seriousness and duration of the problem, we may provide a partial refund, full refund or account credit. Short periods of maintenance, third-party disruption or minor faults that do not materially prevent use of Comet will not automatically qualify for a refund. This does not affect your statutory rights where the service has not been provided with reasonable care and skill or does not conform to the contract.
8. Upgrades
If you upgrade from Signal to Galaxy, the change may take effect immediately. Any additional amount payable or credit applied will be clearly displayed before you confirm the upgrade. Comet will not change your plan or charge the upgrade price without your confirmation.
9. Downgrades
A downgrade will normally take effect at the end of the current paid billing period. Until then, you can continue using the features included in your existing plan. Before confirming a downgrade, Comet will explain:
- which features will become unavailable;
- whether your domain will be affected;
- whether your website exceeds the new storage or page limits; and
- any action you should take to retain your content.
Downgrading does not normally produce a partial refund for the current billing period.
10. Failed payments
If a subscription payment fails, we may:
- notify you by email;
- ask you to update your payment method;
- retry the payment;
- provide a reasonable grace period; and
- restrict paid features if payment remains outstanding.
We will not permanently delete your website solely because of one failed payment without providing reasonable notice, unless deletion or restriction is required for another lawful reason.
11. Refund processing
Approved refunds will normally be returned through the original payment method. Although Comet may process a refund promptly, banks and payment providers can take additional time to display the funds in your account. Currency-conversion differences, exchange-rate movements and charges imposed independently by your bank may affect the amount that appears in your local currency. We will send confirmation when a refund has been submitted.
12. Promotional codes and complimentary access
Promotional codes may be subject to additional eligibility, duration and usage conditions shown when the code is issued. Complimentary or fully discounted subscriptions have no cash value and cannot be exchanged for a refund. If a promotion later converts into a paid subscription, the price and renewal terms will be shown before the customer agrees to the paid subscription.
13. Price changes
We may change subscription prices in the future. We will provide reasonable advance notice before a price change affects an existing subscription. The notice will explain the new price, when it begins and how to cancel before it takes effect. A price change will not be applied retrospectively to a billing period that has already been paid.
14. Account deletion
Cancelling a subscription and deleting a Comet account are separate actions. If you request account deletion, we will explain what will happen to your websites, uploaded content, domains and other account data. Some billing, legal, security and transaction records may need to be retained after account deletion where required by law or for legitimate business purposes, as explained in our Privacy Policy.
15. Statutory rights
Nothing in this policy excludes or limits any rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. Consumer rights and cancellation requirements may vary depending on your location.
